Chelsea took a massive step towards the UEFA Conference League semi-finals with a dominant 3-0 victory over Legia Warsaw in the first leg of their quarter-final clash on Thursday night, April 10, 2025.
Played at the Stadion Wojska Polskiego in Warsaw, the match saw Chelsea showcase their attacking prowess and squad depth, with standout performances from academy graduate Tyrique George and winger Noni Madueke, who came off the bench to score a quick-fire brace.
The first half ended goalless, with both sides creating chances but failing to convert. However, the breakthrough came just four minutes into the second half. Chelsea’s captain Reece James, returning from injury, saw his shot parried by Legia’s keeper—only for 19-year-old Tyrique George to react quickest and slot home his first senior goal in a Chelsea shirt.
Manager Enzo Maresca made bold changes at halftime, introducing Noni Madueke, and the winger paid back the faith instantly. In the 57th minute, Madueke doubled Chelsea’s lead, capping off a slick counterattack orchestrated by Jadon Sancho. The English winger wasn’t done yet-he added a second in the 74th minute, again assisted by Sancho, showing sharp movement and clinical finishing.
Chelsea’s control of the match was evident, although Christopher Nkunku missed a penalty midway through the second half after being fouled in the box. Despite the miss, the Blues remained dominant, with their defense keeping Legia at bay. Goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen produced a couple of important saves to maintain a clean sheet.
The 3-0 win puts Chelsea in a commanding position heading into the second leg at Stamford Bridge on April 17. With their eyes firmly set on European silverware, the Blues look like strong favorites to progress to the semi-finals.
