Trent Alexander-Arnold, one of Liverpool’s most iconic modern players, has confirmed his departure from the club this summer following his agent’s approval of a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid, as reported by renowned sports journalist Fabrizio Romano. The decision marks the end of a remarkable 20-year journey at Liverpool for the local-born star.
Born on October 7, 1998, in Liverpool, Merseyside, Trent joined Liverpool’s academy in 2004 at the age of six. Initially a wide midfielder, he was later transitioned to right-back a position that offered him a clear path to the first team. His potential was first spotted by then-manager Brendan Rodgers during the 2015–16 season, when he made his unofficial debut.
Trent made his senior debut at age 18 and quickly rose to global prominence. He played a key role in Liverpool’s back-to-back UEFA Champions League finals in 2018 and 2019, becoming the youngest player to start consecutive finals. He helped the Reds lift the Champions League trophy in 2019, followed by the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup in the same year.
In the 2019–20 season, Alexander-Arnold was named the PFA Young Player of the Year and Premier League Player of the Season. His performances helped Liverpool clinch their long-awaited 19th English league title, ending a 30-year drought and fending off fierce competition from Manchester City.
Internationally, he has represented England at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the UEFA Nations League, and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He was nominated for the Ballon d’Or in both 2019 and 2022, finishing 22nd in the latter.
Despite Liverpool’s narrow miss at a quadruple in 2022, Trent and the team bounced back, showing resilience under new manager Arne Slot after Jurgen Klopp’s departure. Notable moments this season included captaining the team to an FA Cup win over Accrington Stanley and scoring his 350th appearance goal against Leicester City bringing Liverpool within one win of their 20th league title.
On May 5, 2025 just days after clinching the Premier League title, Trent announced his departure, ending a two-decade-long chapter filled with trophies, loyalty, and unforgettable memories.
He leaves Anfield as a club legend, with fans across the world celebrating his dedication, passion, and footballing genius. As he begins a new chapter at Real Madrid, the Kop faithful will forever cherish his contributions.
