
Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has issued a notice for scheduled power outages across seven counties today, Tuesday, March 25, 2025. The utility firm confirmed the interruptions will occur between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM as part of ongoing maintenance work aimed at reinforcing the stability and reliability of the national grid.
In its latest statement, Kenya Power emphasized the outages are necessary to facilitate essential network upgrades, line repairs, and system optimization operations.
Residents in Nairobi, Nandi, Elgeyo Marakwet, Trans Nzoia, Kisumu, Kirinyaga, and Kiambu counties should brace for temporary loss of electricity supply. Below is a breakdown of affected areas within each county:
Nairobi County
Several key areas in Nairobi will be affected by today’s blackout, particularly:
- Westlands and Riverside Areas: Including Riverside Gardens, parts of Riverside Drive, Prime Bank, SBM Bank, UoN Chiromo Campus, and Dusit.
- Central Nairobi: Locations such as Kenya Water Institute, Bellevue School, Ruby East, Masjid Bukhari Mosque, Nairobi Water, and surrounding estates will also experience outages.
- State House Area: Arboretum Road, Kolobot Road, and Ring Road sections near Westlands are among the impacted zones.
Nandi County
Electricity will be disrupted in:
- Kapsasur Centre and Kaptabogen
- Tindiret Region: Including Henry Koskei Secondary, Maraba, Soba River, and Meteitei.
Elgeyo Marakwet County
Affected regions include:
- Kipsetan and Chesubet: Including Kamoi and Kibuga Centre.
- Kimwarer to Sego Corridor: Extending through Muskut and other nearby areas.
Trans Nzoia County
Blackouts are expected in:
- Kaplamai Market and Surroundings: Including Motosiet, Sinoko, Cheptil, and Kiptoi.
- Kachibora to Kapcherop State Lodge
Kisumu County
- Arina East Zone: Power cuts will affect Usotho, MTC Staff Houses, Obama East, and parts of Kibuye Market.
Kirinyaga County
- Makutano Region: Including Makawani Polytechnic, Kamweli Water Pump, and Wachoro Dispensary.
- Gathigiriri and Surrounding Areas: Such as Mithuthini, Migingo, and Sweetcorn Millers.
Kiambu County
- Gachoroba Area: Encompassing Zaweni, Githiga, Gatitu, and Kiaibabu villages.
Kenya Power is urging affected customers to plan their activities around the scheduled outages. Business owners, hospitals, learning institutions, and households are encouraged to have contingency measures in place.
“These planned outages are part of our commitment to delivering a stable power supply to all Kenyans. We apologize for any inconvenience caused and appreciate the public’s understanding,” the utility company stated.
