Tottenham Hotspur have sacked Thomas Frank after being in the job for only 8 months. This came after a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle at home, leaving the North London side only five points above the relegation zone. The North London stadium was once again furious at full-time, as they booed and chanted “Sacked in the morning” towards him.
Thomas Frank, the man who arrived in the club as one of the most regarded young managers around after wonderful spells with Brentford. The Dane replaced Ange Postecoglou, who delivered a Europa League title but finished in a disappointing 17th place, which saw him being sacked by the board. Thomas Frank was seen as the best option to build a new project around, but his start was delayed by injuries to key players like talisman James Madidison who tore his ACL before the season even started. Dejan Kulusevski was another player who did not even feature under Frank; these injuries hampered the way he wanted to play his football.
Spurs were seen struggling to the new system after they were used to “Angeball,” which was front foot football that got fans of their seats but Frank was more defensive and lacked flexibility, they struggled in their build up and when they played against a low block they were seen to be predictable which really caused a frustration among the Spurs fans, they saw as if their side lacked a clear identity.
During the Appointment of Thomas Frank in the summer, Tottenham paid 6.7million Euros in compensation to get him, his time at Brentford was seen as an overachievement as he not only promoted them to the premier league but he was also seen a “giant killer” as he had a good record against the “big six” and also turned the G tech stadium into a fortress, every club had a difficult time playing them, he also improved players like Ivan Toney and now Manchester united forward Brayan Mbuemo.
The Chief Executive Vinani Venkatesham was patient with Frank as he understood the situation he was with the injuries and also had a good record he had in the Champions League finishing in 4th position, but after yesterday day he was left with no options but to sack him, with a club statement stating that “ Throughout his time at the club, Thomas has conducted himself with unwavering commitment, giving everything in his efforts to move the club forward”.
