Today, Kenya marked this year’s labour day with the National celebrations being held in Vihiga county where the president delivered a keynote address focused on the workers’ welfare, wages and the rising cost of living.

In the President’s address, he announced that there will be a 12% increase in general wages and a 15% rise for agricultural workers which is a move aimed at easing financial pressure on the workers’ household.
President William Ruto also outlined additional measures to support workers which includes enhanced healthcare access for public servants through a government-based scheme designed to reduce costs.
The president also acknowledged the challenges Kenyans are facing everyday including the rising inflation and an increasing cost of living in the country. to which the president assured Kenyans that his administration is pursuing policies aimed at economic stability and job creation.
However, there were mixed reactions to today’s address with some leaders arguing that the wage increase may not fully address the economic hardships faced by many Kenyans.
As the country observes labour day, he attention now turns to how the government and stakeholders will implement the announced measures and address the ongoing economic challenges affecting the workers nationwide.
