Mombasa, Kilifi, Siaya and various parts of our counties are grappling with rising insecurity as criminal gangs launch violent attacks, leaving residents fearful and authorities scrambling to respond.
In Bondo, Siaya County, a gang armed with an AK-47 and machetes terrorized residents of Ajigo and Bondo town, injuring more than three people and stealing thousands of shillings worth of items. CCTV footage captured a daring shop robbery in which the gang stole over 140,000 shillings before returning for more cash. Bondo police commander Robert Aboki said suspects identified from the footage are being pursued.
Police are investigating two incidents in Mtwapa and Mombasa where panga-wielding gangs attacked men at their workplaces, injuring them and stealing goods. In Mtwapa, a shopkeeper was overpowered by five assailants, sustaining injuries and losses. Coast regional commander Ali Nuno confirmed the arrest of two suspects in connection with the Mombasa attack and three linked to the Mtwapa incident. Blood-stained machetes were recovered during the operation.
Authorities across the affected counties have launched investigations. Commander Aboki said police are hunting suspects identified from CCTV footage in Bondo, while Commander Nuno confirmed arrests and recovery of weapons in the Coast region.
In response to the growing wave of attacks, police commanders in the affected counties have issued a firm warning to criminals, making it clear that law enforcement will not tolerate lawlessness. They emphasized that anyone involved in criminal activities will face the full force of the law, adding that officers will not hesitate to use their firearms if necessary to protect innocent lives and restore public security. The commanders reassured residents that their safety remains a top priority and urged the public to cooperate with police by sharing information that could help bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure peaceful coexistence in our communities.
