Gone are the days that Kenyan streets would only be full by people from their areas of work, hurrying to get to their various areas of residence before dusk. Today, Kenyan streets are not the normal streets we used to know some years back instead they are slowly transforming to very busy places when sunset comes.
The Choma Zone is slowly transforming and becoming a dominant sector in the Kenyan streets as several young Kenyans, have been occasionally spotted roaming the streets when sunset arrives, just to have a taste of the famously known Mutura and Nyama Choma.
Unlike some days back, today it is becoming a norm to the young generation as they find it more delicious. Roasted meat, commonly known as Nyama Choma is emerging a favourite evening snack to the young people and this is evident from the way they flock the choma zones and enjoy the nyama choma.
Mutura, made from Cows intestines stuffed with boiled Cow blood, is somehow also one of their favourites these days. If you tend to take a stroll late in the evening in some random streets, you’ll be able to notice young people flock around grills with smoke of roasted meat and mutura all over the place, some eating while others waiting for their orders to be granted.
A good number of the young generation have interacted with these zones and have merely developed a habit of paying random visits at least thrice a week just not to miss out on the delicious mutura and Nyama choma. To many, it may seem a normal trend but to some, they consider the emergence of these Choma zones as a unifying factor among the youth today, highlighting the simple life they tend to adopt.
Some people tend to avoid such places because of a myth that the mutura is made of dog’s intestines, which is just but a myth and that has made such people develop a negative attitude towards the zones. The Choma zones is also regarded as an opportunity to earn a living since you pay for the nyama choma and mutura and therefore without the customers, the owners might end up going back home empty handed, therefore support towards them is very key. As Kenyans Street continue to buzz with every kind of activity, there is an uprising sector, The Choma zone and very soon, it will emerge a big sector in our streets.
