Well-known Kenyan gospel musician Jimmy Gait (James Ngaita) is now under hospital care after being violently attacked in Runda on a Sunday morning, 22nd February 2026, at around 10:00 a.m.
The Muhadhara hitmaker was accosted by people armed as he transacted his business in the posh suburb. The gospel industry and the fans are in shock following the nature of the crime, which took place in broad daylight. The attackers are said to have attacked the singer and stabbed her with sharp objects in a tussle. Jimmy Gait was observed to be in a bloody state and appearing to be visibly upset, going by a video posted by his workmate and friend DJ Mo (Samuel Muraya).
The artist received serious injuries on his upper limbs. Gait told the story in a traumatizing video that he made on his deathbed in the hospital: “They have done so much to hurt me. They have cut off my fingers and my hand is cut. It is only through the grace of God that I have managed to live. The thieves took away the mobile phone and some unspecified sum of money belonging to the musician.
DJ Mo gave a stern warning to the people to disregard the messages or payment requests made by the phone of Jimmy Gait, since it is in the wrong hands. After the incident, Jimmy Gait was taken to St. Teresa Hospital Thindigua, where he was taken to the emergency. He is now under the care of medical practitioners. Although his injuries are severe, he is said to be in good condition and he is on his way to bouncing back.
Gait stated that he was thankful to be alive despite the physical and emotional cost of the morning. The fact that such a high-profile figure was attacked in a suburb like Runda shows that there is a renewed concern over the issue of security in the city of Nairobi. Entertainment artists like Mzazi Willy Tuva and others have requested enhanced security, saying that the insecurity is becoming uncontrollable.
Prayers have been offered all over social media that the singer could recover soon and many of his fans have noted the irony in a singer who has spent a significant part of his career promoting peace and mental health with his Hisiah campaign becoming a victim of such violence. Jimmy Gait is an icon in the Kenyan gospel scene who has been in the industry for more than ten years and his songs have been successful, such as Kuna Day.
He had moved away in recent years to humanitarian work. This assault is a nightmare in the history of an artist who has already endured considerable challenges in life, such as major cyberbullying and health threats in the past.
